About The Trust

John and Margaret Cameron of Balbuthie in Fife decided to set up a travel scholarship for Scottish agricultural students, partly because they both travelled extensively when they were young and recognise the positive impact travel has had on their outlook on life, but also because they are keen to give something back to farming. As John says “I do sincerely feel we have had more out of farming than we have put in.”

The Cameron Travel Scholarship Trust was established in 2009 to 'provide funding for Scottish agricultural students domiciled in Scotland and training in Scotland for a career in agriculture for the purpose of broadening their education and the understanding of agriculture in other countries.'

The Trust also offers funding for students at Dollar Academy who are planning to undertake voluntary or vocational work as part of an overseas trip before they progress to further education or enter into a career. The successful pupils will be those whose plans are innovative and far reaching, and the Trustees aim particularly to support students who would not be able to afford to fund such trips themselves.

The Trust can offer a single grant of anything between a few hundred pounds to £10,000, with payment being made in stage payments or a lump sum. Any successful applicant will be asked to complete a report on their trip for the Trustees within two months of their return. For further information, check out our Application Guidelines.
